Interpretive events, besides all containing the word "interpretation" in their name, are performance events in which an individual or partnership interprets a work in a set fashion through their speaking. Dramatic Interpretation (DI)Do you love to act or crave attention? Then DI just may be the event for you to try. Take a published piece, shorten it to the time limit, and act it out. The objective is to stir up emotion from the audience. Oftentimes, pieces are very emotional (many times depressing) – great for drama lovers. This is a chance for melodramatic actors and actresses to shine.Humorous Interpretation (HI)Being overly dramatic sounds boring eh? Well how about being silly? HI is much like DI except instead of being melodramatic, silly voice changes and humor (hence the name) are the key factors. Again, take a published piece, shorten it, and then act. The objective is to make the audience laugh.Duo Interpretation (Duo)Feeling a little shy? Need a friend? How about simply wanting a buddy to be up there with you to help you perform better? Duo is and interpretation where two people act out a shortened version (you do this together) of a published piece. It can either be dramatic or humorous and partners cannot look or touch one another throughout the speech.Thematic Interpretation (TI)One piece isn’t enough? Well, TI is an interpretation of three published pieces (shortened of course!) linked together by a common theme. Pieces can be any combination of dramatic and humorous. This event needs an introduction and transitions to join the pieces to the theme. Speakers in this event hold a binder containing the three selections during the actual presentation.Original InterpretationDo you ever feel like you could present some one else’s speech better than them? Well here’s your chance! OI is when you deliver another’s speech and of course, the original speech must be published.ResourcesRestricted AccessSorry, you need an account to see our resources.
